Why choose this tour?

Ideal for nature lovers and beginners hikers, this trekking brings you on the ancient route that in medieval times connected Canterbury to Rome, discovering ancient medieval villages, charming landscapes and tasty, local products.

DAY 1: Civita di Bagnoregio

Morning transfer. Arrival in the early afternoon.

Guided visit of Civita di Bagnoregio. Because the mountain where the village was built is endlessly eroding, it is also known as “The Dying Town”. Civita is now submerged in the fabulous setting of the “Calanchi”, an area which guards cultures, ancient traditions and the amazing landscape of the village.

At the end of the visit, guided tour of a traditional olive oil mill: guest will be shown the milling process, at the end of which a tasting of oils and “bruschette” will be provided.

Transfer to the hotel, dinner and overnight accommodation.

DAY 2: From Acquapendente to Bolsena (22 km, 7 h)

The hike begins in Acquapendente, the city where it is possible to find a copy of the Holy Sepulchre. Passing through cultivated plateaus, we arrive in San Lorenzo Nuovo, a small village overlooking Lake Bolsena. Continuing through woods and fields of cornflowers, we reach Bolsena, a city known for the Miracle of Corpus Domini.

Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 3: From Bolsena to Montefiascone (19 km, 6 h)

Leaving behind Lake Bolsena and its islands, the route passes through oaks woods, fords and others beautiful landscapes surrounded by nature and silence. At the end of the hike, we reach the Mount Falisco.

During this trekking day, a guided visit and tasting in a local winery is provided.

Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 4: From Montefiascone to Viterbo (19 km, 6 h)

This trekking day begins in Montefiascone, where ancient stone-paved roads, built by the Romans, lead to a beautiful countryside and large open spaces. Crossing these country lanes, we reach the warm thermal waters of Viterbo, where travellers and pilgrims used to take a rest after the long journey.

Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 5: From Viterbo to Vetralla (19 km, 7 h)

From “The City of the Popes”, we walk along a stretch of the Via Francigena where it is possible to find the “vie cave etrusche”: ancient footpaths carved into the rocks.

This trekking day ends in the stunning town of Vetralla.

Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

We don’t want our guests to leave without a tasty souvenir of this trip: that is why a gastronomic lottery of typical Italian cold cuts will be offered during the last dinner together, as well as a parting gift: a bottle of high quality local extra virgin olive oil.

DAY 6: Viterbo

In the morning, guided tour of Viterbo. The historical center of the town, named San Pellegrino, is one of the most characteristic and well preserved in Italy: a real example of a typical medieval town. The visit goes along picturesque alleys to reach the Palazzo Papale (Pope’s palace): built in medieval Gothic style, it is characterised by a loggia with seven arches. For centuries, it was the residence of the Pope.

At the end of the visit, lunch based on typical products in a restaurant of the area.

Return home.

This trek included in the tour covers one of the most beautiful stretches of the Via Francigena, thanks to its landscapes and the charming villages along the way. It is, however, also possible to arrange treks on any of the stages all the way to Rome.
