Why chose this tour?
Ideal for history buffs, foodies and novice hikers, this trekking takes you to the land once inhabited by the Etruscans: the “Etruria”. In this ancient region, necropolises and treasures left by this glorious culture, delicious foods with a deep history and beautiful landscapes await you.
DAY 1: Tarquinia
Morning transfer. Arrival in the early afternoon.
Guided tour of Tarquinia. This afternoon is dedicated to the Etruscans and begins with a guided tour of the Necropolis. In the 9th and 8th centuries BC, it was the home of three households. However, settlements were definitively abandoned and the hill became the main burial site of the city. Today, almost 3000 years later, it is possible to visit 14 wonderful tombs rich in frescoes. The visit continues in the historical center of Tarquinia and in the Vitelleschi Palace. The Vitelleschi Palace houses the Museo Archeologico Nazionale Etrusco, which is famous throughout the world for the richness and variety of artefacts unique for their forms and figurative decorations.
At the end of the visit, transfer to the hotel, dinner and overnight accommodation.
DAY 2: Sorano Trekking (6 km, 5 h)
Around the main Etruscan areas there are unusual paths carved directly into the tuff: the “Tagliate”. These winding and dark footpaths, with their hidden entrances, give strong emotions to those who follow them. The best-preserved ones are in Sorano.
Thanks to the sight of this mystical town, perched on the hill, and these ancient walkaways, the group will experience the sensation of traveling through time.
At the end of the hike, return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 3: Vulci Trekking and Dairy Farm (8 km, 6 h)
A walk in the Archeological Naturalistic Park of Vulci, located between the Tuscan and Lazial Maremma, in a land scarcely inhabited, where marsh birds and other animals find shelter. The park, which is surrounded by impressive city walls, also includes monumental tombs carved into the rocks.
At the end of the hike, guided tour of a dairy farm. A journey into “the world of cheese”, with its aromas and flavours. A taste of different cheeses will be provided.
At the end of the visit, return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 4: Blera Trekking and Olive Oil Mill (10 km, 7 h)
Surrounded by a lush vegetation, this footpath follows the ancient “Via Clodia” and leads to an area rich in Etruscan necropolis, dovecots and bridges.
At the end of the hike, visit of a traditional olive oil mill: guest will be shown the whole milling process, at the end of which a tasting of oils and “bruschette” will be provided.
Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
We don’t want our guests to leave without a tasty souvenir of this trip: that is why a gastronomic lottery of typical Italian cold cuts will be offered during the last dinner together, as well as a parting gift: a bottle of high quality local extra virgin olive oil.
DAY 5: Castel d’Asso Trekking (5 km, 4 h)
These ancient roads lead to a journey back in time, toward the first Etruscan necropolis discovered. Here, in a gorge covered with oaks, it is possible to find hidden tombs carved directly into the tuff.
At the end of the hike, guided visit and lunch in a local winery.
Return home.
